08.22.09 | Jack Bowers Hi Augie
I was just listening to "Lllama" by the South 9 Ensemble and thought to myself, "that trumpeter's name sounds familiar." And it was. Cisco Dimas. I saw him play with an Honors Band here in Abq when he was a Sr in HS and heading to the U of Miami to study with Greg Gisbert. He's come a long way since then! I went to his MySpace site but can't reach him there (or, more to the point, don't want to), as one has to sign up for MySpace or something like that, and I'm not inclined to do that. Anyway, pls say hi to Cisco for me and let him know I remember him from Abq. And as he is on the CD, I'd be happy to review it for you (that's what I do -- but mainly big bands). Let me know if you'd want me to write a few words about "Llama." BTW, we have a pretty good big band here, directed by another pretty good trumpeter, Bobby Shew.
Best to you and the band

Just writing to say "Hi" and let you know I just listened (and am still listening) to you and your brass partner. I love it! This is the type of jazz to which I'm addicted and to hear it played with crystal clarity and such mellow smooth-ness is a genuine treat.
Fantastic!
And, yes, I am related to John McLaughlin, who did your case. I am his very proud father.
It was through John that I was introduced to you and the Southern 9 Ensemble, so, obviously, I had to look up your web stie and say hello.
BTW: Where did the title "The Llama" come from?
None of my business, actually, but as a writer and former journalist, I get curious about things such as this. OK, OK - so I"m nosey.
Take care and be good to yourself...
